It is fun to watch Christmas movies as a family, but sometimes it's hard to find movies that everyone in the family will enjoy. These five movies are all rated PG, so they are appropriate for kids, but not so child-oriented that there aren't a few jokes for adults as well. Please enjoy my list of the top five Christmas movies for the whole family.
Starring Will Ferrell, "Elf" tells the story of Buddy, a man raised by elves at the North Pole, and his quest to find his family... and ultimately find himself.
A large family gets caught up in the chaos of embarking on an overseas family trip and accidentally leaves 8 year old Kevin home alone. While home alone, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) decorates for Christmas, does some grocery shopping, overcomes his fear of the basement, and, oh yeah, battles some bumbling criminals (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern).
A man (Tim Allen) inadvertently kills Santa Claus and then ends up becoming next in line to BE Santa Claus. This movie is funny, corny, magical, and moving... especially for families who have an understanding of the strain a divorce can put on your relationships with your children.
Based on the best-selling children's book of the same name, "The Polar Express," is a great family movie to watch. There are great special effects, some good acting (especially by Tom Hanks, who plays several characters), and an overall magical experience.
"The Nativity Story" focuses on the period in Mary and Joseph's life when they journeyed to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus Christ. This is a great one for families to watch during the Christmas season.
Some other great Christmas movies for the whole family include: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "The Nutcracker," and "Prancer."
