There are so many amazing books out there for young girls, but these book series all feature some of the best for tween girls. If you're not sure what a tween girl is, it is a young girl who is in that stage between childhood and independent teen-hood; it's that young girl who likes boys, is going through tons of physical and emotional changes, and who has all sorts of friend drama to boot! Here are the top five book series for those girls; the tweens!
"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" series includes the books "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, "The Second Summer of the Sisterhood," "Girls in Pants," "Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood," "Keep in Touch: Letters, Notes, and More from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," and "Sisterhood Everlasting." It is a great series about female friendship, growing up, coming into your own, following your heart, and learning life's lessons.
The "Twilight Saga" has become a worldwide phenomenon, due in big part to the success of the "Twilight" films. But the book series is engaging, creative, and an interesting read in its own right. The series includes the books "Twilight," "New Moon," "Eclipse," and "Breaking Dawn," and centers around Bella, a moody human, Edward, a handsome vampire, Jacob, a handsome werewolf, and the other "people" in their lives.
The "American Girl" series is actually many, many series of books all centered around different girls of different backgrounds throughout different points in American history. Some of the girls included are Kirsten, a Swedish immigrant and American pioneer, Molly, a little girl growing up during World War II, Samantha, a Victorian Era darling, Addy, an African American girl who finds freedom from slavery during the Civil War era, and Josephina, a hispanic girl growing up in New Mexico in the 1820's. These are great books for tweens.
This beautiful book series follows Anne, with an E, on her journey from an orphanage, to life with her new family on Prince Edward Island, to the life that she builds for herself. It's a lovely series for tween girls. The series includes the books "Anne of Green Gables," "Anne of Avonlea," "Anne of the Island," "Anne of Windy Poplars," "Anne's House of Dreams," "Anne of Ingleside," "Rainbow Valley," "Rilla of Ingleside," and "The Blythes are Quoted."
For tween girls who are into strong, female role models, intrigue and drama, and who like solving mysteries there is Nancy Drew. There are lots of lots of Nancy Drew mysteries to choose from; the books started in the 1930's and new ones are still being written in the new millenium!
Other great book series for tween girls include the "Little House" series, the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series, and the "Harry Potter" series.
I loved the Nancy Drew series when I was a teen. Thanks for the list. H5
