Full spectrum lighting is the closest light to the sun that man can reproduce. We were designed to have the sun's natural light more than man-made light bulbs. According to Harvard Medical School and many other respected experts, full spectrum light from the sun has been proven to improve the health and well-being of humans, most animals and plants. The ancient Greeks, Hippocrates and Pythagoras, proved the many healing benefits of sunlight and even had temples of "healing sunlight" in the city of Heliopolis.
Exposure to full spectrum lighting increase the necessary brain hormone associated with mood elevation. The brain center called the "hypothalamus" is connected to the pineal gland which is the body's light meter. When the pineal gland is exposed to the right amount of full spectrum light, it produces serotonin. The pineal gland increases melatonin production, when healthy light exposure is decreased.
This is why so many people feel tired and depressed when they do not get enough full spectrum light. (Preferably sunlight) Insomnia and SADD is one of the chief complaints of people with too much melatonin.
Our immune system is dependent on the benefits of sunlight for a healthy immune system. The sun has taken a bad rap from so-called experts who have encouraged people to avoid it at noon, when it is supposed to be the worst time to be in it. That is a myth as our ancestors were in that sun daily, with no epidemics of skin cancer.
Studies have proven that sunlight raises vitamin D3 levels, which in turn boost the immune system to fight off disease and sickness.
There is a term called "malillumination" which means a lack of sunlight or full spectrum lighting that causes hyperactivity, attention deficit symptoms, anxiety and fatigue in adults and kids. Because kids sit in school all day with cool-white florescent lighting, it increases levels of stress-producing hormones ACTH and cortisol. Full spectrum lighting is being used by more and more people to correct this light deficiency problem.
Eye clarity and visual color perception are greatly improved with sunlight or full spectrum light. Eye problems are rampant in this day and age of artificial lighting along with people being indoors on a computer for hours. Computer monitors cause major strain and fatigue on many people's eyes because of the lighting and the black on white print. Full spectrum lights close by your monitor, along with a shield for your screen can protect your eyes.
Full spectrum lights are being used by thousands of people with SADD in the winter months to help their sleep patterns and energy levels. Our body has a circadian rhythm that is set through the eyes getting enough healthy light. Not only our eyes, but our skin absorbing light can help our whole being. The sun is always best, without getting sunburn, of course. But when there is not enough sun available, try the full spectrum lights and see the difference in your life.
Not all full spectrum lights are the same. Do your homework and read reviews before buying them.
Interesting and informative.
