It's that time of year to bring friends and family into your home as you host a holiday party - either Christmas, Hanukkah, (or insert your own holiday here)! Festive and delightful, a good holiday party just puts everyone in a festive spirit. Come along and learn some tips you can use to host your own holiday party.
Mistletoe isn't just for Christmas anymore! Hang some mistletoe over the door so that guests immediately get a hint of the holiday spirit within. If you're low on funds, get some greens from your own yard and wrap the foyer banister or use the same fresh greens to make a simple wreath for the dining room door. Place Christmas lights inside a large vase and plug it in -use blue and white lights if you're having a Hanukkah themed party. Set out some battery operated candles to add a festive light atmosphere to your holiday party.
Holiday party food doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive. Roll a few cocktail weenies in some dough and bake to make your own pigs in a blanket. Serve with spicy mustard. Or make cheese puffs which cook up in just 11 minutes in a hot oven. Simple, easy and quick food is what you're going for. Your guests are sure to enjoy your holiday party appetizers.
Instead of serving individual beer and wine, make a large punch bowl of fruit punch and spike it with vodka (make sure to put out a tag stating that it's spiked!). Add some dry ice for a festive foggy appearance as it stews.
If you really want to make a statement with your holiday dress, consider renting a dress online (see resource section below). Or, for a more laid back look, just grab a long red sweater and some green leggings. Slap on a gold snowflake pin and you'll be the hostess with the mostess.
Ask you best friends to help cook, refresh your appetizer table and stay for an after party to help you clean up your house. They won't mind and, to be honest, the after party is usually more fun anyway.
Try to relax and enjoy your own party. So many of us who host parties frequently get all caught up in making sure the house is gorgeous, etc. Just give up on the idea, make the house 'good enough' and enjoy your party!
