Are you a hippie, bohemian, or free-spirit looking for some amazing hippie and/or bohemian shops in Michigan? Well, here are the top five.
Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bohemia Too offers hippie/bohemian clothing, shoes, jewelry, books, gifts, and accessories. They also have beautiful antique furniture, unique imported goods, and a HUGE selection of beads for those of us who make our own jewelry. When you go to this amazing store, look for Maja the dog and Clark the cat to greet you!
Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tea Room in Ann Arbor, Michigan is a great shop for hippies, bohemians, free-spirits, and really, anyone who wants to improve the quality of their life! They offer a plethora of books in over 200 categories (from Acupuncture to Zen) and they also have gifts, cards, jewelry, crafts, art, music, incense, ritual items, candles, yoga supplies, and so much more! In addition to all that, they also have guest speakers, authors, activists, and artists come in for special events AND they have live music in the tea room on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
You can actually find a Wildside Smoke Shop in both East Lansing, Michigan and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Wildside Smoke Shops specialize in tobacco products, smoking devices, and accessories. You can also pick up incense there! The coolest part about Wildside is that the pieces that they sell are like works of art! The blown glass water pipes that fill the cases in the stores are truly a joy to look at. This is a great place for hippies to go if they are 4-20 friendly, love art, need supplies for medical reasons, and/or if they smoke tobacco. (I do want to note that the store does not condone the use of their products for any illegal activity, and they also do not promote the pieces available for sale as being used for anything but tobacco.)
Otavalito is a fair trade shop located in Saugatuck, Michigan. They specialize in handcrafted items including natural fiber wool & cotton hand knit and woven sweaters & jackets, art weavings & bags, 100% cotton blouses & shirts, and much more! Otavalito began in 1986 as a cooperative effort between Otavalo families in Ecuador and their North American friends to bring cultural programs of music and a fair trade craft market to the international community. Most of the products in the store still come from Ecuador, although there are items from all over Latin America available as well. Otavalito is a member of the Fair Trade Federation and Co-Op America, and it is an amazing place.
Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Scavenger Hunt is an amazing store for hippies, bohemians, and free-spirits to do their clothing and accessory shopping. Scavenger Hunt specializes in vintage clothing, bags, shoes, and accessories, as well as some new clothing and accessories. They also have rock concert t-shirts, costumes, and leather goods. (As an added bonus, once you're done shopping here, there is an amazing record store nearby called Vertigo you can pop into as well!)
