While the playground might be for the kids, parks are for the enjoyment of the whole community and adults should enjoy them as well. Here's a list of some things adults can enjoy.
You'll have to prepare for this one a little bit and you might even need to make a reservation. A covered spot with a bar b que grill is prime real estate on a Saturday afternoon so you may need to contact your parks and recreation department-but if you're just going to do a picnic, bring a blanket and claim a spot.
Turn your cell phone off and escape in the middle of the day to enjoy some peaceful time with a good book. Take a blanket and a bottle of water. If you are lucky, you might find a shady spot under a tree not too close to the playground. Leave any valuables in the car and if it is a good neighborhood, you might even be comfortable with a little nap.
Walk or jog.parks generally have plenty of wide open spaces for activities like this. If there is a breeze, you could even fly a kite. As a side note, you might not want to let a child who is too young hold the string.they let go!
Sometimes just visiting people and watching them is a good activity-the park is not a great place for this if you tend to be judgmental. Parents aren't going to see everything their kids do, somebody will light up a cigarette on the playground (which is illegal where I live), or any of a number of annoying things might happen. Other than that, people watching is a great way to remember your youth.I love to watch my grandson climb something that looks a little too big for him to climb & I love watching other little kids take on an adventure too!
Aside from just getting some exercise, many parks have equipment for sports-basketball courts, tennis courts, and even swimming pools. Take advantage of these as well.you'll have to call to get a schedule for public swim hours (or it might be posted).
I like to go to the parks around my house. I have one that I go to pretty regular to treasure hunt.the playground is a great place to find lost coins. Sometimes, I'll take a book or my journal as well. Where people watching is concerned, one of my other favorites is when it's time to go.the kids never want to go and I certainly remember not wanting it to be time to leave on some occasions when I was a kid. Another memory is when the ice cream truck comes!
Wonderful list. Parks are nice for everyone when they are cared for. Having more adults at the park is a good way to help keep the kids safe too.
Oh the park is fun for everyone and your good list is inspiring.Thank you.
