Here is the top 5 ways to tune-up your PC computer and make it work less and go faster. Choose one and try it for a month. If you do not see a difference, increase the frequency or try another method.
If you use Norton 360 internet security program to protect you computer, use it once a week or once a month to tune-up your computer. Open the Norton 360 program and look for an optimize option and run it.
Download the free Win Utilities program from CNET.com. The program has many tweaking and tuning options. Once installed look for the 1-Click Maintenance tab, check the box to defrag and then click the Run button. Choose to shut down automatically when finished if desired. Run Win Utilizes at least once a month and more often to speed up your computer while making it work less. Win Utilities also has a purchase copy that can be set to run periodic tune ups.
Download the free Advanced System Care program from CNET.com. The program is similar to Win Utilities but there is not a 1-click maintenance method. It also has a purchase copy for automated features that the free version does not have.

Windows operating systems come equipped to tune up Windows; i.e.: Disk Cleanup and defrag. In Windows XP, these features must be started manually. Windows Vista and Windows 7 have automated these features more or less and the frequency can be adjusted manually. Click the start button then click Help and Support to find more details about using this option to tune up your PC. The Windows programs are located deep in the All Programs, Accessories and systems tools folder making them hard to find. Only one program can be run at a time making this option a last choice.
Running one of the above tune-ups weekly or monthly will make your computer run faster and work less. Even if your computer runs these automatically, I recommended that you run them at least once a month to make sure they are completed. Too often, the computer is turned off before the automated program has a chance to run thru completion. Be sure to restart your computer after running one of the above tune up methods to refresh Windows to get optimum results.
Excellent list!
I use CCleaner and MallWareBytes but will consider some of these options. I'm running Windows7 now. My computer is pretty fast except when at LM5. I don't know if it's my settings or this site but everything is slow to load here for me. I put up with it because I like this site and the members here.
It sure is great to see you writing again! You always write great articles that will help many people, too. H5
