Introduction:Modern bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits can often be identified by similar traits. Here are the top five traits of a modern bohemian, hippie, and/or free-spirit.
Modern hippies, bohemians, and free-spirits need a lot of freedom and understanding from the people in their lives because they need independence. Modern bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits want the freedom to do what they want when they want; they want the freedom to make the art they want to make; they want the freedom to believe what they want, love who they want, and to follow whatever dream, fancy, or journey they feel they must follow. Bottom line? Don't try to control a bohemian, hippie, or free-spirit, and be very careful in telling them what to do. They crave independence and they need it to thrive.
Bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits are revolutionaries in their chosen fields. Whether they are artists or scientists, teachers or tech guys, bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits are always stirring the pot, rocking the boat, and creating new ideas, inventions, and ways of doing things. This is because bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits are creative and innovative beings; driven by dreams, visions, fantasies, and deep thoughts, they can change the world.
Whether this means changing laws, fixing a person, stopping an injustice, or starting a revolution, bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits are always rocking the boat! They are always ready to fight for their cause (whatever their cause may be.) All bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits go about this all differently, but the motives are still there. They need to change, fix, stop, and start things.
Bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits have a sense of humor (how else could they live in such poverty and still be creative, innovative beings out to change the world?) Some have a dry sense of humor, some dark, some dirty, some classy, some corny... but all bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits have some kind of a sense of humor. It's a great trait to have.
Bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits are a bit self-obsessed. This does not equate to them being vain or cocky (well, not ALWAYS) nor does it mean that they don't care about others (most of them do!) When I say bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits are self-obsessed I mean that they have a never ending drive to understand themselves, their purpose, their life, their emotions, their dreams, and their relationships with others. Sometimes they also have a never-ending drive to change the world (and be recognized for it), become famous (or infamous), and/or to be admired. That is how the modern bohemian, hippie, and/or free-spirit is self-obsessed.
There are many other traits that modern bohemians, hippies, and free-spirits share. These are just the top five traits of bohemians, hippies, and/or free-spirits in MY opinion.
Thanks for the comments all. Traqqer, I understand exactly what you are saying. It's taken me many years to embrace the labels that others put on me (hippie, bohemian, free-spirit)because of the misconceptions of what those labels mean. But now I embrace them with pride and work very hard to promote a positive image of myself and others like me. :)
This would be me. Thanks for the list!
People often view hippies as using the cliche'd or stereotyped, uneducated and lazy freeloaders who won't listen to authority. This is definitely not true and your list will hopefully help to counter this. I've seen college professors, computer programmers, etc. who like to think of themselves as people who view things differently, and for that, they are viewed as outcasts sometimes.
Interesting! I used to be much more of a hippie, but not sure if I was Bohemian. My age is slowing my hippie tendencies down. :)
