Whenever you visit South Africa, whether it is for business or pleasure; make sure that one of our National Parks are on your itinerary.
Few sights are as awesome or a sound as deafening as water thundering down the 56 meter Augrabies Waterfall when the Orange River is in full flood. The Khoi people called it 'Aukoerebis', or place of Great Noise, as this powerful flow of water is unleashed from rocky surroundings characterized by the 18 km abyss of the Orange River Gorge. Picturesque names such as Moon Rock, Ararat and Echo Corner are descriptive of this rocky region.
The Golden Gate Highlands Park in the north-eastern of the Free State Province lies among the foothills of the Maluti Mountains, ringed with massive cliffs that are bathed in lights of brilliant gold - the phenomenon that gives the park its name.
This is a large and incredibly scenic park with rippling hills covered in low acacia bush, and lofty viewpoints giving a bird's eye view of who's doing what where. The north of the park is more rugged and mountainous with forests and grasslands, while the south and west is more undulating with open savannah. Hluhluwe is a difficult word to pronounce but something sounding like "Shoushlooee" is close enough.
The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park is located between the borders of Namibia and Botswana. The park covers an area of a little less than 10,000 square kilometres. The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park and the adjacent Gemsbok National Park of Botswana together occupy as much as 36,000 square kilometres. Since there is no barrier separating the two parks, the animals move freely from park to park.
Foot safaris offer you unforgettable encounters with creatures both great and small. From stalking a herd of Giraffe to discovering the mysteries of a Termite mound, these experiences become far more meaningful when you feel Africa through the soles of your feet. There is something extremely humbling about sizing up a White Rhino who is glaring at you and wondering whether there is a tree close enough to scale out of danger .
South Africa's Fauna and Flora is of the best in the world. It is a must see!
