So, there's a lot of great articles about how to make money online writing for sites such as ListMy5, Examiner, and eHow but what about the sites which really don't pay. Below is an honest assessment of the 5 worst places to make money online.
Ok, some people do tend to make money at Squidoo but that's because of the spam they sprinkle throughout their articles. Plus, Squidoo pages are difficult to follow due to all of the ads.
Sad to say but Firehow is rapidly showing itself to be a dud for residual online earnings. Pay was much better earlier on when it looked like each view gave one about a penny but no longer. Plus, unless you keep fresh content on a daily basis, forget even getting residual views.
Redgage was all the rage back in the day. This linking site was supposed to provide residual pay on all the links one placed on the site. The good thing was that, ostensibly, you'd get backlinks to articles although I'm not sure that even worked.
This site is supposed to pay through your adsense account but, by looking at my adsense analytics (to see where traffic is coming from), theinfomine doesn't appear. So much for posting there!
This one has proven to be a bust also as it just doesn't have much ranking with Google. Benefits are that you can write about anything you want, just don't expect to make much.
The above list is from my own personal experience. I know that people do make money at the above sites but, for the amount of marketing, spamming one has to do, they just don't seem worth it to me. But, if you have additional thoughts, please leave me a comment. This list can always be modified.
Thanks for the info on these places.
I want to get you to take another look at Squidoo. My lenses about Library Book Display Ideas or about Abraham Bates Tower (my great-great grandfather) have lots of information and yes, my pages do have things to sell. I'm having fun there and making $300 to $400 a month.
I haven't tried any of those sites, with the exception of Squidoo. They are an honest, paying site. But, it takes forever to make a lens (for me, anyway). I like the speed of writing a LM5 article (I'm in love!).
I so agree about Squidoo. If you want a site like that to contribute to, Hubpages is so much better and you can make money writing legitimate articles, not spam.
In rereading this list after having written it a while ago, I realize it might be a downer but I don't mean it to be. The very valuable input from the comments was quite helpful I think and gives another view of these sites. Thanks all.
I agree with everything except for Squidoo. Yes there is a lot of spam on the site, but there is a lot of good stuff too. It's what you make of it. The only problem is that you have to stay active to make money.
Squidoo can be fun, but I haven't made a ton of money there, so you are definitely partly right on that. I do like how easy they make it to donate a portion of your earnings to charity on Squidoo though. It may only be a few cents, but I've given money to the ASPCA and many other charities through Squidoo, which is awesome. I appreciate your opinions on these other sites I don't use, as well as your opinions on Squidoo. It's good to get another writer's perspective on things. It can help to prevent me from wasting time on something that's just not worth it. Thanks!
I have tried Firehow and Redgage. Firehow is nowheresville. Redgage can be fun if you like looking at photography. It doesn't pay much, though.
Nice list! I tried Squidoo and was totally lost...too many blanks to fill in I guess...I like to keep things simple. I have to semi-disagree with redgage, though. I had a great experience my first month and actually made payout very quickly by getting a few feature bonuses and winning the daily $25 contest. They seem to reward more bonuses for pics and videos than anything else. If they get their site running faster I hope to spend more time there because I do think backlinking my ehow articles on their site has helped my earnings, but it's very glitchy right now.
Between you, me and the gatepost as the old folks say, you are so right about Firehow. Thanks
ha ha, Joyce. It might work for you, who knows. I just don't like the fact that the Squidoo pages are so hard to read. I can't tell the spam and ads from the article!
Now you tell me, after I made my first lens on Squidoo! Time will tell; at least my lens is pretty to look at!!
