Holiday Christmas cookies are a traditional favorite of almost everyone. Every family has their own traditions, but these cookies can be found in almost any home at Christmastime.
What can be more festive that buttery sugar cookies decorated with pretty icing. Snowmen, snowflakes, Christmas trees and stars, sugar cookies never last long on the plate.
Gingerbread cookies can be cut into shapes, like gingerbread men or reindeer, or simply cut into rounds. Any way you cut them they are spicy and delicious.
Spritz cookies are dainty and pretty, sprinkled with festively colored sugar crystals. Children love to help make these cookies, as most cookie presses are easy for them to operate.
Whether the cookie is flavored with peanut butter, chocolate or vanilla, jam thumbprint cookies are always a hit. The jam sparkles like a jewel in the center of a luscious cookie and they always look pretty on the plate.
Christmas cookies often are flavored with traditional spices of exotic places. Anise cookies are traditional favorites of families with European roots. They are buttery and spicy and perfect with a hot cup of coffee.
I'm reading this early in the morning and I might have to have cookies for breakfast.
I need to try some of these. Great cookies list.
Absolutely Puppy! Let me go to my virtual oven and whip up some virtual Sugar Cookies. DONE! See they take no time at all in cyberspace. How you enjoy them. : )
Magic Seven Layer Bar Cookies are my favorite holiday treat. (Yes, I know other people eat them year round, but my mother only let us have them during the holiday season.) Speaking of which... my tummy's grumbling. Are you offering to make us all Christmas cookies? I do think that's what I heard you promise. Yes, I'm sure of it. Thank you. You are just too kind.
I'm craving and icy glass of milk and some of your recommended cookies! My great aunt made excellent spritz cookies. I remember (and have pictures of me) eating commercially produced seasonal cookies called "Jingles" with red and green sugar topping, too. Nice list!
Great list, Diane! We make three of your five, and would love to try the others.
