Finding out that you are pregnant can be a very exciting and a very difficult time. Whether you wanted to get pregnant or not, you are filled with all sorts of emotions.
There is either happiness or terror, maybe even both feelings at the same time. Also, you are probably feeling sad and worried, wondering what kind of mom you will be, etc.
Well, RELAX! Here is a list of the top five things to do when you first find out that you are pregnant.
Call your doctor, and make an appointment to see him or her. You should be told, for sure, that you really are pregnant. Your doctor should also prescribe prenatal vitamins for you to start taking.
Feel free to discuss with them any and all of your many concerns. Any good doctor will also tell you to feel free to call them with any concerns, too.
You will need to decide who you want to tell first. Hopefully, the father will be the first person to learn that you are pregnant. I guess that all depends on your personal circumstance.
Think about telling your family and friends. Be sure not to tell any one person, who will in turn, tell everyone else under the sun.
Texting is probably not the best way to go. You will probably want to tell each person personally. These days, though, you could just make a shout out on Facebook and/or Twitter. Don't worry about what they might think or say, just tell them.
This is your time, and your moment. Do things your way, and enjoy it!
If you haven't already, quit smoking and quit drinking. This is not the time to be doing either of those two things. It is not good for the new baby.
Also, be sure not to be taking any prescription drugs or even over the counter medications. These could be harmful to the new baby, too.
You may want to Google some other rules that you should know, like staying away from kitty litter, paint, etc.
Don't worry about getting a bigger place, baby proofing your house or apartment, or setting up a new room for the baby just yet. Babies don't take up much space.
If you don't have health insurance, you may want to consider applying for medicaid, or look into some free clinics near you. Either that, or make an agreement with your doctor to start making payments now instead of getting zapped with one large bill once the baby is born.
Other than that, leave your worries behind. You have got a long wait ahead of you.
Now relax. Take a deep breath, or a lot of deep breaths. Just chill. All of them emotions that you are feeling right now are perfectly normal. Get used to them. You are going to be a mom, and you will do just fine.
With this in mind, just get back into reality, and live as you normally do. Nothing has really changed yet. The changes will come slowly. Just think, you won't even need new clothes until you are in or around your fourth month of pregnancy.
Enjoy this experience. Childbirth is one of the greatest joys ever.
Great list.
