Hippies, bohemians, and free-spirits are people of all different ages, backgrounds, races, ethnicities, cultures, sexual orientations, religions, etc. These books are all interesting reads for modern hippies, bohemians, and free-spirits.
Bohemians are known for breaking rules, pushing boundaries, and maybe sometimes being a little hypocritical. So why would a bohemian write a manifesto, or a handbook, or a rulebook, or anything along those lines? I don't know... but I do it all the time. And so do many Bohemians. Maybe it's just another way to express creativity, maybe it's a way to share our stories with others, or maybe it just helps us in our daily life to feel like we have some structure (bohemians may love their freedom, but I am of the belief that everyone needs some structure to maintain their sanity). Whatever Laren Stover's reasons, an amazing manifesto emerged because of them. This book inspired me, made me laugh, made me think, and was just really enjoyable to read. It is a great resource to go back to if I get lost along my way, because it's like a companion who is more like me than many people in my day to day life. I think anyone who feels like they could be a hippie, bohemian, or free-spirit should read this book.
I thoroughly enjoy Barry Miles as a writer. He has a way of giving you information, with a little personal spin on it, that is entertaining and interesting. This account of the time of the original hippies is that way, and it is compelling and unique. You may think you know everything about the "hippy-dippy" days, but this book will reveal new things, even to those who lived through those times.
The full title of this book is "The Hippie Handbook: How to tie-dye a t-shirt, flash a peace sign, and other essential skills for the carefree life." This book is funny, interesting, and kind of helpful! There were definitely a few fun crafts that I learned how to make from reading this book. Mostly, it's just a fun read, a good conversation starter, and a great way to add some tie-dye to your bookshelf.
The full title of this book is actually "Hippie Crafts: Creating a hip new look using groovy 60's crafts." This is a great book, because many hippies, bohemians, and free-spirits love vintage anything, are eco-conscious, and/or love arts and crafts; this book appeals to all of those things.
This is a work of fiction, but it feels very real... which is surprising. (You'll see what I mean if you read it.) This book made me challenge myself and my beliefs, which can be important for personal growth; I know it was for me. I can't tell you how much meaning this book has for me, and maybe it will mean a lot to you too if you give it a chance.
There are many great books out there geared towards hippies, bohemians, and free-spirits. Feel free to share your favorites in the comments section below.
