Google's new algorithm is supposed to block low quality content. I'm finding it does just the opposite. I've analyzed my content to see what gets page views and which articles are floundering after Google's recent changes. Here's what I found so far.
I'm famous for writing articles that list specific sources that back up my work. If I state a fact, you can be sure that fact is backed up with reliable sources. I'm not afraid to tackle serious subjects, either. Sadly, all my more serious, well researched, impeccably written articles are bombing since the changes were enacted at Google. Hmmm.
My most viewed article by an overwhelming majority this past week? "Is Baby Gaga Breast Milk Ice Cream Healthy?" Of course, my article was well written and I did cite my sources. It's the subject matter in question here. This article ranks above "L-Tyrosine for Hypothyroidism" Seriously, Google, what is your criteria for quality articles?
All the articles getting serious page view power this week in my queue were Google trends. They weren't spectacularly written. In fact, by my judgment, they were just filler drivel. I'm not insulting myself here, I write what pays the bills. That's what I'm trying to do here. This is my job, so I follow the rules, whether I agree with them or not.
It seams Google's new algorithm loves bloggers. Can't get enough of them. In fact, blogs are ending up on Google News these days. Since when is Janey Poo's Blog about Life with Duckie a reliable news source? Guess what? All my blog style articles have page views through the roof.
Thanks Google. Not only did you make it impossible for me to make money with quality articles, you never defined exactly what you do allow to come up in a search engine. So, even if we wanted to comply, we couldn't possibly decipher exactly what it is you want us to write. It's certainly not quality because that's not what your search engines are picking up.
Yes, I know. I said I would be positive but I hate being forced to write drivel. Google's new algorithm is forcing me to either do that or starve. Enough said. Back to work.
A very interesting list, not sure if I can fit "Breast" into every list LOL But if it is what it takes to gain a penny or two for us writers, then maybe Google will be forced to rethink its new algorithm. If they don't send readers our way. Who will click the ads? More power to well researched factual posts!
Google changes will be constant. Great article. I just write what I know and try to keyword well once in awhile. Good topic.
I haven't changed my writing style to conform.
High5.
Interesting -- not sure whether to laugh or cry.
Ha, ha - love your cynicism!
Congrats on the very funny & interesting featured article! H5! :)
Buddzzz, I disagree strongly. I think this list is funny - and true.
This is a great list! Keep on writing
Great list which enlightened me. Congrats too! H5
Congratulations on hitting the nail on the head about "goofy google". I read those tips and just laughed when I did.
I think that I'm getting about the same amount of page views. I did notice, however, that my article asking the question of whether "Aborted Babies Enhance the Flavor of the Food You Eat" was my hottest AC article in March, even though I wrote it on the 30th of the month. Perhaps sensationalism sells under the new algorithm (although, like you, I did have a source).
Thanks for sharing this info. It gives me a lot to think about.
This is one of my favorite lists EVER! Very well written and I've had the exact same thoughts about Google. My previous large earners are tanking but stuff that's laid dormant a year is heading up. Weird. Eh, as long as it pays....
I'm with snowfence, I write what I like to write about and take pride in it whether it's a well-researched and cited article or a blog-type article. People like variety and change and Google likes to throttle people and keep as much of the moola as possible. I pretty much ignore the algorithm thing cause it will always change. Kind of like my clothes closet. :P High 5 and congrats!
Sad but true ... my best articles are suffering, too.
Interesting findings on the new Google. Congrats on the front page.
Nice well written list. Well done on this one. You really do wonder what is going on and what will pay.
lol @ #2.
Haha, your breast milk ice cream article went through the roof because it was on the discovery channel (not the article but the subject). Hope you pulled in some dough on that one.
You go girl! Your list tells it like it is.
Your list is right on for all the highlighted ideas about Google.
Thanks for doing the research and sharing your findings! I have been wondering what we'll be seeing as a result of the switcheroo. Enjoyed your list!
Hmmm... Thanks, but I'll just keep on writing whatever hits me. :D H5
Just more great reasons to use the Yahoo search engine!
