Introduction:It's impossible for anyone to come up with only five places in the world worth seeing. So, I've decided to list the first five amazing places that pop into my head -- these will be five places I have actually visited. Please let me know what you would add to your own list and why!
At more than 1300 miles in length, the Alaska Highway was built during World War II so that military equipment could reach Alaska should there be an invasion by Japan. Now this mostly paved road that traverses much of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory is a wilderness-lover's dream.
Romance is in the air when one thinks of the Hollywood movies that feature couples meeting atop this New York City landmark. Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr plan a rendezvous but disaster strikes; it takes Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks to clinch the deal decades later. (But let's not forget King Kong and his beautiful blond!)
Nothing is more magical than taking a stroll on a misty, Irish morning and encountering one of these majestic crosses. These tall, free-standing stone crosses are richly decorated and feature a distinctive circle where the two parts of the cross intersect. They may date back to the seventh century.
The magnificent saguaro cactus with its arms reaching skyward -- This is the symbol most associated with this desert region that encompasses southern Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. Want to see an amazing sunset? Pick your spot on almost any day of the year and watch the sun set behind the Tucson Mountains.
If, like me, history was one of your favorite subjects, then the Roman Colosseum and the Roman Forum are must-sees. A thumbs-up from the emperor was the sign every gladiator hoped for; it meant he would live.
We hope to go to Alaska sometime. It has been on my husband's bucket list for years.
