Introduction:Swimming pools. Who doesn't like to go for a swim on a hot summer day? Unfortunately, most pools use chlorine, a poisonous gas that kills harmful bacteria but -- at the same time -- can negatively affect your health.
When swimming in an outdoor chlorine pool, the chlorine disperses into the open air. This cuts down on the amount of chlorine you breath in. A heated pool outdoors can extend your swim season well into the fall or longer, depending on your geographical location.
If your only option is to swim in an indoor chlorine pool -- such as one at the local gym -- don't overexert yourself. If you find yourself coughing, it may mean the chlorine you're breathing is irritating your bronchial tubes and possibly your lungs.
Chlorine dries out the body, inside and out. Keep a glass-free bottle of drinking water by the pool's edge and drink at regular intervals. Do NOT reuse those disposable, plastic water bottles from the grocery store; these bottles begin to breakdown chemically after their first use.
Water reflects sunlight, and so it is important to apply a sunblock that offers both UVA and UVB protection. Do so even on a cloudy day. Remember, the "A" in UVA stands for "aging." The "B" in UVB stands for "burning." A quality sunblock keeps your skin from burning and eventually aging.
Always shower and shampoo after swimming in a chlorine pool. When your skin is still slightly damp, apply a facial moisturizer to your face and neck and a body moisturizer to the rest of you. Always choose moisturizers that are noncomedogenic, meaning their ingredients do not block your pores.
Great list. Thank you.h5
These valuable tips aren't only for swimming pools but apply to hot tubs too. Chlorine is a very drying chemical so rinsing and moisturizing are very necessary steps.
