Having your dog's name on his/her dog dogs gives you an easy way to identify your dog should he/she become lost and you find yourself speaking to a stranger on the phone who claims they may have your dog.
Always make sure there is a contact number displayed on your dog's tags and keep it current. If someone picks up your dog, you want them to be able to reach you immediately.
If your dog has a medical condition, this should be noted on their dog tag. This can help a veterinarian should you dog be brought in for care by someone other than yourself. If your dog does not have a medical condition, you may want to consider adding 'needs medication' anyhow. This helps discourage dog theft.
Many dog tags have the information simply printed on. Choose a quality dog tag that has been engraved. Print can wear down and become illegible otherwise.
Attach your rabies tags to your identification tags on your dog's collar. Be sure these are kept current to protect your dog from both rabid animals and added protection should even a false bite accusation be filed.
