Introduction:Sadly not every pet owner is a pet owner for the life of their pet.
Some owners see a cute pet, or an unusual pet; they get it without doing more research. In a short time they find either the pet needs more care than they can give, or grows far too large than they were prepared for.
This is owner error, failure to research the pet before getting it.
A cute puppy can grow into a handful if not socialized and well trained. Again this is owner error, the dog did not just become unruly over night, the owners never trained it to have good manners.
Again, owner error. Pets do not become destructive without cause. Smart dogs, parrots, and so forth, all are prone to being destructive if their mental needs are not met.
Imagine that, getting rid of a pet because it got old; perhaps had more medical needs, maybe was not cute enough anymore.
The people who surrender their older pets to animal shelters often do so with guilt, sometimes claiming the pet was a stray.
They dump the pet rather than taking it to the vet themselves.
When people do not spay or neuter their pet they soon have unwanted kittens and puppies.
According to my wife (pet enthusiast B Nelson) giving the kittens and puppies to the shelter is actually a lot better than giving them away to stranger, so this excuse is a good one.
Pet ownership should not be done on a whim.
I remain a pet owner for the life of the pet. I adjust, but I do know all the excuses you list.thank you for compiling this valuable article.
I see this happen a lot! Pets are part of the family. Once you own it it is your forever!
All excellent reasons. I love my pets very much.
All good reasons that people have given up their pets or other animals.
