Introduction:By planning meals a week in advance we can save time, money and stress. True, this takes front end time, but you will love being organized during the hectic week ahead. Here are tips to create a weekly meal plan.
Before you commit pencil to paper, check the weekly sale items at nearby groceries. Make a scratch list of specials and clip any matching coupons. Don't forget to check on-line for coupons.
This is important if you have children. Do they have morning activities? If so, plan a grab-and-go breakfast on those days. Is there an out of town sports event? The child(ren) may eat out with the team that evening. Will hubby have a late meeting? Plan accordingly when it's just you and the kids. Are you getting the picture?
Look at leftovers in the refrigerator. If you aren't planning to serve them, this is a good time to throw away and clear space for the upcoming week's supplies. Look at expiration date on meats and dairy items. Build these in your meal plan early in the week.
Scan the pantry for staples like pastas, rice, seasonings, canned goods, etc.
I always assigned Wednesday night dinner to my kids. By the time they got through squabbling about what they wanted, I would have planned the balance of the week. Don't be surprised if they decide on hot dogs and beans every Wednesday night.
Congratulations - you are teaching your kids responsibility and organizational skills.
Of course, your weekly meal plan should have built-in wiggle room for spontaneous meals out or even ordering an occasional pizza. Also, feel free to switch meals around (except Wednesday night).
For example, you'd planned Monday meat loaf, but are drop dead tired that evening. Just switch with the Thursday menu. It's much easier to prepare grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup at the end of a stressful day.
On Thursday if you're out of sorts, be flexible and order that pizza.
See how this works?
I've managed to do this a couple of times. I will try it again, thanks to your encouraging list. H5
Sounds good to me. This was a very well written and interesting article. I will be back to read more

A well thought out plan for a week of meals saves money and frustration too.Your how to list has the greatest guide. I was fortunate to have 3 children who liked to cook something other than beans and franks. When they got older (teens) they each had 2 days of cooking, so I had one.
It only makes sense to economize this way, it's so much more efficient! H5!
