The patience needed, coupled with the ability to work with large numbers of young people alone, should get teachers much more respect. Unfortunately, society does not place a high value on the educators of today. If we did, teachers would not be underpaid and unappreciated.
It's a dangerous job and someone has to do it. Every city has a few rogue cops that make it tougher for the officers that do their jobs admirably, to get their due respect. We can talk all day long about how much we appreciate police officers but until the men and women in blue see it in their paychecks it's nothing more than lip service. Money speaks volumes.
It's the same as a police officer. Until the 9/11 tragedy we thought that most fire fighters sit around the firehouse and play cards all day. Overlooking the fact that each time they leave the firehouse, their lives are in grave danger. A nice raise for the Fire Fighter is long overdue.
A good masseuse can make anywhere from $25k to $60k annually. She typically sets her own hours but will often work around your schedule. The ability to know the pressure points of the body and actually heal via a good massage is very much underrated. How great do you feel after a good massage?
There is no other job where workers are taken more advantage of than the Customer Support or Tech Support position. Dealing with loud, obnoxious, ignorant, belligerent, and irate customers, call after call, without going off, is something the average person simply cannot do.
Great list. Don't forget nurses. HI5
You actually nailed them well, especially of course, the first three. Well put together! H5
Excellent list of underrated jobs.
Excellent shout out for more respect for these underrated professions! H5. As a certified massage therapist I always resent how some people ignorantly think that a massage therapist is nothing more than a glorified hooker.
