Introduction:Do you have a favorite hobby? One Internet site reports that Americans' number one hobby is watching television. Here are a few ideas for some interesting hobbies.
When my youngest daughter was about 3 or 4 years old, she started saving her McDonald's Happy Meal toys. She wanted to put them away -- in their original bag -- and not play with them. We never learned who told her about doing this, but she was adamant about tucking them away. She even got mad if her older sister opened the toys to play with them. Sometimes, I had to buy another meal just to placate her!
This is an odd hobby, but it is an interesting one. Some people save the scratch off tickets, such as Wisconsin's Tic Tac Toad game or Florida's Tic Tac Snow Tripler. You would expect a game about snow to be in Wisconsin! A fun thing to do is to collect lottery tickets when you travel.
A lot of people collect coins, but you can personalize your collection. I collect coins that from our birth years and our anniversary. My collection includes coins for my husband and me, our two daughters, and all of our grandkids. Maybe 2001 doesn't mean anything to you, but I will snatch it up for my youngest grandkid's set of coins!
When I was in school, I had two choices for erasers: the one on the end of my pencil and the pink rectangle. Erasers come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Like puppies? There are doggy erasers! These collections do not require a lot of room or special handling. Wonder if I can find an eraser replica of George Clooney!
Most people think that all ferns are alike. Not so! In the dells by Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, you can find ferns so small that they look like they belong in a fairy garden. You can also find giant specimens. In other parts of the world, you can find exotic ferns with unique-shaped leaves. Don't forget that you can collect and press other types of plants, such as hosta leaves.
Collecting can be a family hobby or an individual's hobby. You can have a hobby for a short period of time or enjoy it for years. Sometimes, we abandon our childhood hobbies but return to them when we are older or when we get grandkids!
Lottery tickets are an interesting hobby -- I like to check tickets left at the racetrack. Some people throw away winners -- I'll bet people do the same for lottery tickets!
Good list of things to collect. Our children get an enjoyment of collecting as well. They also enjoy selling for a profit and collecting again... so it a fun never ending project.
Erasers! Wow! I've never heard of this as a collection category.
