Many dog owners use non-traditional command words instead of the traditional "sit," "stay," "down," "come," etc. For example, Shutzhund trained German Shepards are trained using the German words. My dogs use "follow" instead of "heel." A friend's dogs use "wait" instead of "stay." What's your dog's release word? "Release," "OK," "alright," "finish," etc?
Many dog owners leave the contact number where they can be released, but what happens if you are away from the hotel room or your phone's out of service area? Leave the name and phone number of your vet and an alternate pet sitter or emergency contact in case an emergency occurs. I also let my vet know the name and contact number of my dog sitter and instructions to admit my dogs if the sitter brings them in and I will pay the vet bill when I return to town.
Does your dog routinely knock over the kitchen garbage can? Fake needing to go potty? Harass the cat? Wake you up in the middle of the night to steal your covers? Throw up when anxious? Try to shoot out the door whenever it opens?
Does your dog need his daily glucosamine pills, insulin shot, ear flush? Is he allergic to corn, wheat, specific treats? If so, do you have special dog treats he can have?
What time does your dog eat and how much? How often does he need to go potty? When does he usually need a walk or playtime? Does he expect a midnight snack of Milkbone and liver treats?
