Introduction:A homemade windshield deicer solution is very handy and convenient for those who don't have the luxury of a garage for their vehicle. These simple mixes of household products in a spray bottle can help prevent ice or remove it rather than having to do that dreaded winter scraping we all love! ;)
You can usually find spray bottles pretty cheap at dollar stores or you can use an old spray bottle from home to put your windshield deicer solution in.
One of these is to to prevent ice buildup on your windshield and the other is to remove it so if you make them both, be sure to use different shades of food coloring for each one and label the bottles.
You will need:
One bottle white vinegar
One bottle 70 per cent Isopropyl Alcohol
Food coloring (optional)
Measure 3 parts white vinegar with 1 part water into a spray bottle and add a dab of food coloring. Label it as "windshield ice prevention."
Spray it on the windshield the night before to prevent ice build-up.
Next mix 2 parts alcohol with 1 part water into the other spray bottle along with a dab of food coloring. You don't have to use food coloring if you label it but I like the colors just for clarity. Label this one as "windshield ice remover."
Spray this on ice for easy removal.
To add to your deicer products, make this simple formula to add to your windshield washer fluid to keep it from freezing.
Use 1 part 70 per cent alcohol to half of a bottle of windshield washer fluid and pour into reservoir of car. This will prevent ice in your wiper washing fluid lines.
