Introduction:Shingles is a painful rash that comes from the same virus that causes chickenpox. If you have had chickenpox you can get shingles at any time without any warning.
You may have pain, burning, tingling, or numbness on your back, chest, arms, or legs before a rash appears. This could happen several days or weeks before a rash appears.
You could develop symptoms such as chills, nauseous, stomachache, or diarrhea before the rash shows up. You usually will not get a fever with these symptoms.
A small rash may appear anywhere on your body but usually only on one side of the body. The rash might be mild. You will develop blisters from the rash along with fluid seeping from the rash.
You may get pain along with the rash. This pain may feel like needles in your skin. This pain is very normal. People explain this pain as being pretty painful.
You could have aching or stabbing pain where the rash was. This pain could last for at least 30 days. People sometimes have problems eating or sleeping due to the amount of pain and discomfort.
If you think you have shingles, be sure to see your doctor. He or she may be able to let you know what you can use over the counter to help relieve some of the pain you might be having.

I've been meaning to get the shingles shot. Must do that.
I'm one of about 3 people known who don't get shingles; I keep getting chicken pox! 3 times now and full blow pox. I've been tested, prodded, questioned - totally healthy except no immunity to this one disease.
Good description of shingles pain. My daughter has had it twice, even though she was a teenager. Doctor said it is likely to recur during times of high stress. So glad there is now a vaccine.
Good list to know---especially the flu symptoms.
My mother had it on her face and it before she knew what it was she scratched it, leaving a small scar. I've heard it is quite painful in some instances. Thanks for the great article on recognizint the symptoms of shingles. I feel very much enlightened by this. High 5 to you!
