Introduction:Our pets are important to us and it is our job to keep them as safe as possible. This is why pet owners need to be careful what they feed their dogs so they will not get sick or worse. Here are five of the unhealthiest foods for pooches that need to be avoided.
Onions are toxic for dogs and can lead to anemia which attacks their red blood cells. Anything with onions, including onion powder or salt, needs to be carefully contained so they do not inadvertently ingest it. I am lucky as my dog backs away from them if I so happen to drop one by accident. However, most canines will snatch them up quickly. Be careful!
People adore chocolate but it can be horribly bad for dogs. Keep it away from them, especially dark chocolate. Chocolate contains theobromine which is a toxic agent for them. It can cause a dog to vomit, diarrhea, seizures and even death. In this case, 'death by chocolate' is not funny!
Grapes are healthy for people but for dogs, it can be bad. These little pieces of fruit can cause vomiting and even kidney failure. Keep them away from your pet and they will thank you for it.
Many people give their dogs a bone to chew on but bones can become sharp and get stuck in a dog's throat, just as in humans. Chicken bones are the worst. However, I would go so far as to say any bones can be hazardous. My pooch is excitable and she has choked on a couple of bones I had given her, so I stopped. It gave me too much of a scare.
Have you ever been guilty of letting your dog lick your ice cream or gave them a piece of cheese? It is easy to think that you are pampering your pet when in fact, you might be giving them digestive troubles. To keep their digestive tract healthy, resist the urge to feed them anything dairy-related.
The best thing to do for your dog is to stick with their healthy dog food instead of people food. They will thank you for it!
