Exercising regularly can make nodding off easy. The best time to workout is either in the morning or early afternoon. When exercise is done too close to bedtime, it can disturb sleeping patterns. Working on the computer or watching TV is stimulating to the mind. This makes it harder to get better sleep. In fact, anything that stimulates the brain should be cut out. This could include nicotine, caffeine, alcohol or too much light in the bedroom.
Get better sleep by eating healthy snacks before retiring. There are some important compounds in specific foods that have a calming effect. Tryptophan is an amino acid found in foods like turkey, bananas, oatmeal, peanut butter and milk. The body uses it to make serotonin and melatonin which makes us feel good. Only eat a small amount so that indigestion does not happen.
Try to relax before bed. Take a warm bath or shower. Massage the neck and other muscles either by using the fingers or an electronic device. Wear loose and comfortable clothing.
There are some natural herbal remedies that can help a person get better sleep. For example, Chamomile tea contains a flavonoid that acts like a sedative but does not have any side effects. Sipping a little bit of it before bed is helpful. Deep sleep can occur after smelling the scent of lavender oil. Just put a few drops of it under a pillow or in a warm bath.
