During the days when the wind blows, sand is distributed all over the front yard when living on the Oregon coast. The sand penetrates into the house creating a layer of sand on furniture. No dust, just sand lands on the tops of the furniture. The sand is very fine, so it resembles dust, but when it is put between the fingers, it is definitely sand. If you like the wind, a coastal living is for you. If you do not like the nearly daily wind, the Oregon coastal towns are not a place for you to consider. The wind in the winter time reaches Hurricane force without the eye that the hurricane has. Some of the wind in coastal towns in Oregon actually cause damage with the sand that the wind picks up and beats plants and some structures as well. The wind in the winter is fierce and many come to the coast to experience the winter wind storms. The wind whirls the Pacific Ocean and white caps form from that wind.
Coastal towns in Oregon are sometimes 20 degrees cooler than even the inland towns. It is a rare day even in the summer when temperatures rise above 75 degrees. Many people in the inland towns flock to the Oregon coastal towns to escape the 100 degree temperatures they have in their towns. If you yearn for warmth, the Oregon coastal towns are not for you since the summers are even cooler at the Pacific shores. Temperatures as they are can stop growth of plants that generally grow in the summer months. It is well known planting has to be done carefully on the Oregon coast to have things thrive.
Pictures of fog are nice to view, but driving in fog is very dangerous. Fog is common on the coastal towns in Oregon. It can be said that fog comes as frequently in coastal towns in Oregon and the waves of the Pacific Ocean come to shore. Fog can last only an hour or most of the day and evening. If you don't like driving in fog, the coastal towns in Oregon are ones you should avoid. If you must drive, choose the less foggy days to travel. Fog lights on cars and trucks are commonly seen in the Oregon coast.
