Even if your area does not do recycling, inquire how to save the environment with your efforts. There is always a thrift store that can use good usable items before you put them in the landfill. Have a yard sale and replace the items you no longer want with money you can use elsewhere. Talk to friends and neighbors if you do not want to have a yard sale. Find out what others would trade for your items you don't want anymore. Recycling does not always mean to not acquire some things of value for yourself replacing unusable items of yours.
Sometimes we just don't think. We let the faucet get opened and the water flows so easily. We should consume all the water or use it wisely. While washing your car, do not let the hose just run without using the water that is coming from the hose. Turn the water on and off as needed even if you are not paying for water consumption. Think about using that same technique for brushing your teeth. Teach your family about saving the environment by consuming water correctly and using it well. Have a rain barrel outdoors collecting water that can be used outside for numerous projects.
During fall clean up, there are leaves and small twigs that can be used by birds and for other uses too. Don't put this debris where it cannot be used. Landscapers often have large amounts of grass clippings. Ask them how they use their debris. If they throw it in the dump, encourage them to allow that to be used elsewhere to save the environment. Begin a pile of your own in an inconspicuous place in your yard and allow nature to use that in good places. You will notice some wild life coming to pick over your clippings very soon after they are piled up for them.
