Introduction:Online dating can be a very intimidating experience. Sometimes you can feel a lot of pressure when you are initially setting up your profile, thinking you need to make it absolutely perfect. However, I have a little secret for you: when it comes to profiles, there is no such thing as a perfect one. Whatever you happen to put out on the Internet, the most important thing is to always remain true to yourself. When the right person sees your profile, your authenticity will really shine through.
Given all of that, I am asked quite frequently what is contained in a "good" profile. Here are 5 useful tips to help you get started setting up your profile.
It can be very tempting to select a picture of yourself which shows you in your prime when you were at your thinnest and youngest. However, don't do this. Just like you want those you are potentially interested in to be completely honest, you need to of course do the same. No false advertising! Locate a current picture of yourself (taken within past six months) that will make you feel attractive and confident and post that one.
You want to find that ideal balance between writing too much on your dating profile and not writing enough. You want to do your best to find that space in between. A minimal description about who you are can turn someone off as much as writing a complete novel that tells your whole life story. Leave your profile readers with a good sense of you who are as well as what you are searching for. Just don't overwhelm people. Provide them with a couple of good details of course, but save a majority of the specifics for a date in person.
Limit your pictures to a full-body photo and maybe a couple of different angles of yourself. Don't give away too much as far as including things like pictures of family members, friends and pets. The idea here is to give people an idea of who you are and what you're about without giving all of the best parts of yourself away before meeting somebody face-to-face on a date.
This seems obvious, however so many people think it's a better idea for a family member or friend to create a profile for them. It doesn't matter how well a friend might know you, your profile still won't be in your voice, and that is very important. You are the person who knows your story better than anyone and exactly how you want prospective dating partners to view you.
This of course is the most important of all of the tips I can provide you with. Online dating is supposed to be exciting and fun and not something you dread. No matter what, always make sure to have fun when filling out your online dating profile.
