Introduction:It's round body is topped by a swiveling head as it sprints around your home or office with just a few little bumps here and there. It's the latest offering from gadget and toy make Sphero, the newest Star War droid, BB-8.
In honor of the newest chapter in the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a ton of new merchandise will be hitting store shelves in advance of the film's debut on December 18. Dubbed "Force Friday" by Disney, owners of the Lucasfilm franchise, fans can look forward to a myriad of fun new items. One of the most talked about offerings is the replica of Star Wars' newest droid, BB-8.
A replica of the droid featured in the film, Sphero's BB-8 looks and behaves just like the on screen version. Unlike many toys, BB-8 possesses an adaptive personality capable of changing as you interact with it. As you interact with the droid, BB-8 will display a range of expressions, even perking up when it hears you give a voice command. Controllable by smartphone, they toy can also be set to "patrol" mode where it will roam around on it's own.
Like other toy robots offered by Sphero, your smartphone becomes the key way of interacting with your BB-8 droid. You can control all of the droid's functions using your smartphone.
BB-8 will be priced at $149.99, which is quite affordable for such an interactive toy. Consumers will be able to find the droid at Apple stores, Best Buy, and on Sphero's website.
Many toys in the Star Wars franchise require a great deal of imagination on the part of the user. They almost never work like you see on the screen. Lightsaber blades consist of a simple plastic tube. Where is the fun in that? However, other than its smaller size, Sphero's version of BB-8 is able to perfectly recreate everything film enthusiasts have seen on screen so far.
