Introduction:Sinus pressure affects more than 30 million Americans each year causing headaches, facial pain and infections. If your pain persists more than a week, you may want to get checked for infection. Here are some ways to possibly prevent one or relieve pressure.
Salt water spray relieves dry nasal passages and can prevent the formation of bacteria. You can buy saline nasal sprays or make your own with warm water and sea salt.
A net pot comes in various sizes and material but all do the same thing. By using a neti pot, you irrigate the nasal passages with a soothing salt water solution going in one nostril and out the other. This process also flushes out irritants and bacteria.
Steam therapy opens up the sinuses and gives some relief from the congestion associated with sinus issues. You can do this with a cup of steaming hot water and a towel over your head. Taking a hot shower is effective, too.
Aromatherapy has not been scientifically proven but many claim relief from this method. Essential oils like mint, eucalyptus, cinnamon lemon or any pleasant fragrance may help.
Decongestants such as Sudafed are very helpful for sinus pressure but they do dry the nose out. Use a salt water nasal spray and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.
