Introduction:There are moments in all of our lives in which we wish to simply throw in the towel and run away. Of course, most never would, but sometimes just imagining the respite for a few minutes provides enough relief to keep on keeping on. I present to you these "fantasy ready" locations in which to (mentally at least) run away.
Who hasn't fantasized about running away and joining the circus? The circus offers a wide variety of job opportunities ... you possibly train as a trapeze artist, clown or ring master. Failing those, if you like animals, you can feed the lions or wash the elephants. If you sew, you can design or repair costumes. If you have no talents at all, they'll probably at least put you to work selling tickets or washing dishes ... the circus is an equal opportunity employer and has something for everyone to do! As an added benefit, you'll get to see the world and "interesting" coworkers are a guarantee!
Just throw in the towel. Tired of your life? Considering the front page of the French Foreign Legion recruiting website (link below): "Whatever your origins, nationality or religion might be, whatever qualifications you may or may not have, whatever your social or professional status might be, whether you are married or single, the French Foreign Legion offers you a chance to start a new life..."
Go ahead ... go for it. Adventure awaits.
Then there are those who simply want a little peace and quiet. These folks should go to the library, get a copy of the "SAS Survivalist Handbook" and pack a few basic necessities before heading for the hills or to the back of the beyond. Simply go find an uninhabited and remote place and eek out a living from the land. You'll be able to work and rest in peace and quiet, hear the birds, reacquaint yourself with wildlife, perhaps go fishing. Don't come back until you know your own soul inside out. Oh, and take a copy of On Walden Pond with you ... it might provide a reference framework for your thoughts.
If you simply want to get lost in the crowd and enjoy total anonymity amongst many people, consider running to Rio de Janeiro. Referred to by those in the know as simply "Rio," it is a great place to simply disappear, to blend in the crowd of many others. Just be careful, Hannibal Lecter was last seen disappearing into those very same crowds.
Depending upon your ability to close out the rest of the world, drifting away into a fantasy world of your own making is also an option, especially for those who have mobility or financial issues that prevent their running any other way. Glaze your eyes, put in ear plugs, and either sit in a corner or cover your head. Concentrate hard on your favorite mental "get away" location. Pretty soon, you'll be in Narnia, at Tara, or in whatever mental refuge it is that the vehicle of your fantasy might take you. Have a save trip!
