Introduction:Well, I'm no teenager but I do live with a couple of them and I've seen many types of makeup styles come and go. Here's my top five makeup tips for teens, from a mom's point of view.
It is not recommended to slather on foundation as if you were icing a cake. You may be bringing more attention to those zits you're trying to cover up and defeating the purpose. Your skin needs to breathe so your pores won't clog and create more blemishes. If you insist on using foundation please pick the correct shade to match your complexion and always blend well. Orange streaks or pale vampire faces are really not attractive.
I don't know how these things have made a comeback, but I've seen teenagers sporting them around town recently. Girls, please save them for the prom, the ballet recital, or other special occassion where you want to look more glamorous. If you start wearing them to school everyday, people will think your afterschool job includes slithering around a pole.
Lipstick can be a tricky thing to pull off as a teenager. If applied too heavily or in a shade that stands out too much you'll look like the pole dancer mentioned above. Opt for a lipgloss with a hint of color and shine to perk up that pout...and by the way, stop pouting in all your facebook pics...it's so last decade!
Eyeliner can be very flattering if used in moderation on the upper and/or lower lashline. Yes, the lashline...not the entire eyelid or overextended into the temple area, unless of course, you're Cleopatra in the school play. And boys, if you're rockin' the Adam Lambert "guyliner" this applies to you as well.
Eye shadow is also meant to be worn on the eyelid, not extended up to the eyebrow as some teens may think. Those bright blue frosts and glittery cremes of the 70's were not attractive then so why bring them back for an epic fail now? I don't care if Vogue says "retro" makeup is in this season. Your mirror won't lie to you and hopefully your friends will tell you how absurd you look as well.
