Keeping busy is probably one of the best things your can do to help keep you from smoking. Most people smoke when they are either bored or stressed. By keeping busy, it will keep you from getting bored. Keeping busy will also keep you from being so stressed because it keeps you from thinking about the negative things in your life when you are preoccupied with other things. This is a good way to try to keep you from smoking.
Have a pack or two of gum with you at all times. When people are chewing gum, it helps them keep their mind off of smoking. Keep a pack in your car, in your purse or pocket, at work, or wherever else you tend to smoke. Be sure to pop a piece of gum in your mouth before you get the urge to smoke.
Be sure to throw away all of your packs of cigarettes that you have laying around the house, in your car, and at work. If you don't have any cigarettes laying around the house, there will be less of an urge or temptation to smoke.
Some people get hypnotized to help them quit smoking. This helps for most people. If you just can't quit smoking, try getting hypnotized and see if this helps. Be sure to go to a reputable person to get hypnotized.
This step is very important to do. People tend to smoke more when they are at the bar drinking. There are quite a few states that don't allow smoking in public places anymore and if you live in a state that doesn't allow smoking, then this should help you. Although there are quite a few people that will just go outside the bar and smoke. Be careful for this temptation too. You are just better off not even going to the bar if you are a smoker, it will be less tempting for you.
First hand and second hand smoke has been proven to be bad for your health. Smoking has been proven to cause certain types of cancer as well as other health problems. It is also very disgusting to those that don't smoke. Non smokers can smell the smoke on your hair, your clothes, and your breath when you walk by. Try to get some help if you are having problems trying to quit smoking. It is better for you and your family if you would quit. You will also find yourself a healthier, happier person. It may take a while to get out of those habits that you have been in for a while but if you put your mind to it, you will be able to quit. Trust in yourself that you can do it.

Good job on the list. I quit 5 months ago and all of these were the top things that helped me as well except for the hypnotizing. Although, I heard that works very well. :)
Great list, good job!
Thanks for the top five steps in helping you get through the day without smoking. H5!
Fear of lung cancer and the reality of it made me quit and honestly, never have I looked back and wanted one. I think I would run if someone forced one on me. I just lost another friend to lung cx last week. My logic was if cigarettes were doing me any good, I wouldn't need another so fast. I was a chain smoker. That was 2000. I was done. Best wishes to all that want to quit. H5
My son just switched to the e-cig and is doing pretty good with that. Good tips but I would opt out of the hypnotizing. :)
I need to get on this - thanks for the tips to stop smoking!
I smoked about 25 years ago, after 7 to 9 months of trying to quit I finally quit .. I mention this because of Step # 3 "Throw Away Your Cigarettes" .. I used to do that, and it would work for awhile, but because I never liked to ask for a cigarette I would end up buying a new pack .. but that was back in the day, when a pack of cigarettes sold for about $0.60 cents. I'm not sure what they cost today, but the cost alone would be enough for me to quit. But, I know, that's easier said than done.. nice list, hi5.
Excellent ways to quit the nasty habit of smoking.
I kicked the habit over 10 years ago and never looked back. I hate smoking!
Your list is a good one to get through a day without smoking and eventually quit smoking.
