Things to Do at the Cabin

Introduction:

We had the pleasure of spending a few nights with our son, his wife, and our three grandsons at a cabin for the 4th of July. It is peaceful and relaxing and here are some of the things one can do if you have the chance to get away.

Sleep In

This one is highly recommended! After all, the point is to relax and get away from all the hustle and bustle for a few days. I generally wake up at 5:30 or 6:00 and managed to sleep in until almost 7:00 the second morning. This was a challenge with three grandkids under 3 years old.

Read and Write

I read quite a bit-the kids nap and I was the first one up the second morning. I also wrote in my journal each morning and wrote more than I usually do. I love when the words just flow. I also took a notebook and jotted down several ideas for lists here.

Play Cards

We got a light rain and my son and I played cards yesterday afternoon-I gave him a spanking! If the whole family is up for it, playing cards or a board game is a good way to bond with each other. We did have a television and some videos but that was mostly used in the morning to put Elmo and Disney movies on for the kids.

Bar B Que

We had a nice bar b que for the fourth of July. If you rent a cabin, you'll want to check if the cabin has one or not.the one we stayed in is owned by my son's father in law and my son brought a bar b que anyways.he likes his better than the one that is there. Everyone can visit on the back porch or back yard while food is cooking. The ladies also enjoyed chatting while preparing the sides in the kitchen

Take a Walk

There's something about the crisp air up in the mountains that makes a walk almost a necessity. My son and his wife took the oldest grandson (almost 3) to a fair to ride on some rides yesterday afternoon. My wife and I loaded the twins into their stroller and went for a nice long walk. The area we were in was really like a neighborhood.but lots of cabins to look at, lots of trees (and lots of pinecones), and dirt roads. It was neighborhood, but just rustic enough.




Final Thoughts

We had a great time and at my age, I prefer a cabin or a hotel to a tent anytime. This really was more relaxing, a good way to get recharged, and I look forward to going again. I might be able to work a deal and go with just the wife and I next time; that would be really nice.
