T. Jefferson Parker writes about murder and mystery in Orange County, California. His works have been awarded the Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America.
The late Tony Hillerman set his mystery novels on the Navajo Reservation in the American Southwest. HIllerman's first book, "The Blessing Way," was released in 1970. His main characters include Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, Navajo tribal police officers. Hillerman's awards include the Nero Award and the Edgar Award.
Michael Connelly's main characters include a lawyer and two police detectives. His first book was "The Black Echo," released in 1992. It introduced one of his main characters, Harry Bosch, who would appear in his next three consecutive novels and several others.
Sue Grafton is known as the alphabet mystery author due to her fiction tales that are titled using the alphabet. Kinsey Millhone, the main character in all the books, is a private detective operating from a fictional town on the coast of California.
Robert Crais is known for his main character Elvis Cole, a private detective with more than a little sense of humor. "The Monkey's Raincoat" introduced Cole and his investigative partner Joe Pike. Pike has taken over the lead role in the latest mystery/detective books released by Crais.
