Anyone who has ever visited a casino and held a pair of craps dice has felt the thrill of the game run through their veins as they get ready to roll the dice. There is nothing quite like bellying up to a hot craps table in full swing. But, if you're a newer player, you should be aware of some of the superstitions when playing casino craps and betting - otherwise, you might not be so popular at the gambling table with seasoned dice throwers.
Unless it happens to be the come out roll with craps dice (when a seven is a front line winner for those betting), roll the dice to a seven showing is a very bad thing. So, do not, on pain of death, walk up to a craps table and ask when the last seven was rolled on the dice.
Actually, betting the Don't Come line in Craps IS betting against the dice roller but craps is a game of chance with some skill thrown in and, technically, the Don't Come line is the best bet in the game as you're betting with the house - and, letmetellya, those huge casinos didn't get that huge and glitzy without winning most of the money. But, you won't make friends by walking up to a craps table and betting the Don't Come bar.
You might hear a cry of 'same dice!' if the craps shooter accidentally sends the dice flying off the table. This cry is because the shooter believes that the dice have been lucky and he or she wants the same craps dice back in his or her hot little hand asap. In real life, craps dice are unmarked anyway so it shouldn't matter what set is being rolled on the craps table.
Actually, being the only player at the craps table may be very good luck as you can control the speed of the game. A lot of craps players (myself included) hate when the action is held up with others making bets and prefer to have a smaller crowd around the casino craps table.
The man with the big stick is the one who passes the dice to the Craps roller and will know to move the dice around so that 7 is not showing when he passes them to the craps shooter. Again, this is simply a superstition and has nothing to do with the next roll or betting strategies.
Craps players are a funny bunch and we tend to have a whole lot of superstitions while playing craps. For example, I have personally witnessed my father wear the same clothes 3 days in a row in Vegas as he was winning in them on the craps table and damned if he was going to change!
Whoa! lol. I guess that's why I don't understand cards and the gambling boats seem weird to me. Great information on a subject I didn't know anything about except the name!
