I see and hear about a lot of people who always work through lunch without taking a formal lunch break. Apparently they are "too busy" or "too stressed" to take the time out of there day for a lunch break. Here are 5 reasons you should always take a lunch break!
Sometimes you can feel overwhelmed with all the things you have to do, but taking a short break from it all can help you clear your mind. After lunch I often have a new motivation to tackle the projects at hand and feel like I have more control over it all then I did before the break.
Most companies, it's required by law that they give you a break. These laws are in place because they know everyone NEEDS a break. Don't break the law ;) Instead, take a break!
If you work straight through lunch, your mind and your body really never have a time to wind down and relax. The stress will just build up more and more.
You may think that working through lunch will help when you are really stressed about a project, but the truth is it will probably just stress you out more. Now, if you are STILL not done with the project after working all through lunch, you'll feel even more behind. Take some time for yourself to relax and as with point #1, you'll probably feel better after and do better at tackling the problems.
Taking a lunch break is also a good time to socialize with coworkers or friends. Meeting someone for lunch, replying to friends emails, returning phone calls, or going out with your coworkers, helps relieve stress and gets you all a chance to talk to one another. Often times in an office environment, it's easy to go all day without talking to anyone. We all need that social aspect to keep us going some days.
Next time you think about working straight through lunch, think again. Take a break, enjoy your meal, and you'll come back to work feeling refreshed and ready to go!
I agree. That is why Americans are viewed as the most stressed out society. See my list on Job Burnout. Good job!
I just wish we had two lunches..lol!
