NFL football is a passion for many, a hobby for others, an all out addiction for the rest of us. So here are some signs that you're hooked.
If you're reading this then no doubt you have a favorite NFL football team, and most likely you have a jersey or two hanging in your closet for game day. But what else do you have? If you're a New Orleans Saints fan and you don't have a single piece of clothing that isn't black and/or gold, you might have a problem. If you're an Oakland fan and you have a Raiders jacket, jersey, mousepad, scarf, shirt, sweatshirt, autographed ball and signed game-worn gloves then you're in deep trouble. If you're putting San Francisco 49ers decals on your pace maker... seek professional help.
If you call that huge raise you just got at work a 'touchdown', chances are you're pretty passionate about NFL football. If you slip while you're coming out of the shower and blame it on "crappy turf", you might be taking this whole thing too far.
If you simply know too much about your favorite team, that may be an indication that this has become an issue for you. For example, if you have memorized your team's record on the road in outdoor stadiums in temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees coming off a bye week in which you lost by less than a field goal... yeah, that's not good. Too much knowledge is dangerous.
You may be a little bit too enthralled with NFL football if you have a key to the front gates of your home stadium, whether you have game tickets or not. Now, if you already have a tailgate set up by the time security arrives at the park then it's time to start worrying.
Some NFL football fans are far too familiar with people that play obscure roles on their favorite team. If you know the name of the offensive line coach, you may have gone too far. If you know the name and the hometown of the long snapper and you have memorized his daily schedule then you could be beyond the point of no return. Heck, just comprehension of the job description of a long snapper is enough to consider toning it down a tad.
