We don't need Valentine's Day to tell our family and friends that we're thinking of them, but it sure is a good excuse to make something special to give to our loved ones.

Handmade Valentines

Your handmade valentine's cards or hearts can be unique with a poem, a small sketch or a mini-paper collage. Make your valentines your way: with as much pink and red as you like or go formal with black and white heart designs. One of the cool things about handmade gifts is that they are expressions of you and you can make them however you want.

Handmade Valentine's Candy

Craft stores have all the equipment and most of the ingredients to make homemade candy. Surprise your children with a homemade candy treat or better yet, make the candy together so they can give Valentine's treats to a few of their friends.

Handmade Heart-Shaped Soap

High-quality melt-and-pour soap bases are available from soap making suppliers. Melt-and-pour soap bases come in varieties such as goat's milk, hemp, olive oil, honey and aloe vera. You can add fragrance to the melt-and-pour base or use the soaps as they are. To make small heart-shaped soaps for Valentine's Day, look for flexible plastic heart-shaped ice cube trays to pour the heated soap base into. You can also add glitter or red or pink pigment to some of the heart soaps.

Homemade Valentine's Fresh Fruit Tarts

If you like to make pies, make easy fresh fruit tarts for Valentine's Day by baking small pie dough shells in a cupcake pan. Once the shells cool, spoon in a berry mixture and top with whipped cream.

Handmade Valentine's Day Beeswax Candles

Add a special touch to your Valentine's Day dinner at home with a pair of handmade beeswax candles. Supplies are easily found in a craft store and it doesn't take long to roll a pair of beeswax candles. The natural scent of beeswax is sweet and comforting and a wide variety of colors are available to match your decor or to celebrate the occasion.
