What is it?
Algal bloom is a rapid increase of algae populations in the aquatic system.
It is also known as marine bloom or water bloom.
It is found in freshwater and marine or ocean environments.
The colors of the blooms can be bright green, yellowish-brown or red.
They're a result of blue green algae. When there is too much nutrients such as phosphorus or nitrogen.
When algae die, they go to the bottom of the lake, taking up the oxygen in the lake. It can create a dead zone or dead lake, with dangerously low levels of oxygen.
The blue green algae can consume the lake, and in warm waters in the upper layer they can spread rapidly. They overtake the other algae that's in the lakes.
Algal blooms can be detrimental to animals and humans, if ingested, it can cause nausea or worse death, they are abnormally high levels of toxins. It is toxic to your liver.
The algal blooms puts the ecosystem at risk. Algal blooms are cyanobacteria, and the high levels of bacteria are toxic, and when the algae die, their cells burst, and the toxins go into the water.
When there are too many nutrients in the water, it is called eutriphication.
