I have a ton of Throws, I tend to get them because everyone knows how much I love a Throw. I also tend to get them as inexpensive gifts and I tend to buy them myself. I was asking myself the other day what I could do with my extra Throws and came up with quite a few nifty ideas.
Ponchos are so warm and cover a variety body shapes. Fold your throw in half, fold again and cut off the folded tip. Make sure the hole you've created will fit over your head and then hem the edges. At this point, you are done but if you'd like you can add tassels to the outer edges. Use anything you'd like including yarn, ribbon and leather strips
Using an old sheet, cut it slightly smaller than your throw. Sew two of the edges together, the long side and one of the short sides. Now stuff with poly fiber fill and sew the remaining edge. Fold your throw, sew the long and one short edge and slip it over your pillow. No need to sew the other end as you will want it left open for easy removal and washing.
If you have a cotton throw just add tassels to the corners and toss it over a small size table. With the right colors you could use these as part of your decorating theme and toss over a coffee table or a dresser.
If you have a few of those well-made rough throws they make excellent chair covers. After covering your chairs spray them with a fabric sealer and let dry to make spills easy to wipe up
Use throws to wrap gifts. Instead of tape use a few stitches to hold it together. Be sure and add a note to the gift letting the recipient know to snip the stitches only and they will be blessed with two gifts.
I admit I haven't made the ponchos yet but I'm eager to get started. I think I will add a slit at the neckline and a button or snap to keep from cutting the neck hole too big. I'm not really much of a seamstress but am pretty sure I can do this and make it turn out right. I would love to hear your ideas.
Great ideas! H5
I'd do the things you've documented for throws if I could only get the dogs off them....
I love the idea of using one to wrap a gift!
Very interesting uses of a throw! Thanks for sharing.
Haha, Thanks Rachel!:)
I love this...!! I recycle this like this all the time... you'll love making the poncho..just for staying warm :)
Yes Bonnie, a throw is similiar. Hint: Safety Pins ;)
Wow! I'd never have thought to write about this subject, because didn't realize they were called throws. Is this similar to an afgahn? #5 is out for me, I can't stitch or sew on buttons.
I love the poncho idea, but all five are great. Good idea about the note to snip the stitches on #5 that made me giggle.
Great uses for throws. I hung one on my wall since I liked the picture on it. Been there for years with lots of compliments.
