Sometimes kids aren't able to go outside whether it be the weather, they're sick, or a number of other things. Kids tend to get bored sitting around watching tv all day long. Sometimes they need something else to do to get their brain working. Here are a few ideas for young kids that I'm sure they will enjoy.
Get a can of shaving cream and spray some on the table (be sure to cover your table with plastic if it is a wood table or if it is a table that can't be washed off). Let your kids draw their favorite things or write their name or just make shapes using their finger and shaving cream. Kids love this and it is something different for them to do.
Get a small paint brush and paper and let them paint pictures using paint that will wash off easily. Let them hang their finished product on the refrigerator.
Cut a large poster board or a paper tablecloth roll (depending on the size of the child). Have them lay on the paper and either an adult or older child trace them on the paper. Have the child cut themselves out. The child can then add eyes, mouth, nose, ears, finger and toe nails and clothes to their cut out body. They will enjoy seeing how big they actually are on paper. Save this cut out body and have them cut out a new one the following year so they can see how much they have grown in one year.
Have them finger paint on either a piece of paper or a poster board using the finger or thumb. Have them make flowers or animals using only their finger or thumb. See how many ideas they can come up with using only their finger or thumb.
Have them experiment with clay. See if they can make an animal or the sun or anything they can think of and bake the clay in the oven when they are done creating their creations. They will enjoy seeing what they can make using clay.
Sometimes kids need something different to do other than just playing with their normal toys that they play with each and every day. Sitting in front of the tv is not healthy for kids. Kids need to use their brain and do other things that they aren't use to doing. Have them come up with other ideas.
