Introduction:Petroleum is the main ingredient in many lip balm products and it is not the best thing for our lips or skin. Petroleum has benzophenone and phenol in it, which is said to disrupt our hormones and actually makes the skin addicted to it after long term use. There are some healthy alternative lip balms.
Vitamin E lip balms are very easy on your lips and can be used for any other skin area. The ingredients in vitamin E lip balms are usually beeswax, soybean oil and olive oil. Read the labels before purchasing, as not all of them are without petroleum.
Jojoba oil is very good for our skin and can be found in lip balms. Other ingredients are usually beeswax, soybean oil and vitamin E.
Shea butter is another natural skin nurturing emollient for our lips. Common ingredients include beeswax, palm kernel oil, soybean oil and vitamin E oil. It can be grittier than other types but is very good for your skin.
Cocoa butter lip balms are another excellent non-petroleum choice for your lips. They are often made with olive oil, beeswax, Castor bean oil and aloe vera.
You can make your own healthy lip balm with any of these ingredients and a good recipe. Shea butter, jojoba, beeswax, cocoa butter, vitamin E, olive oil and Castor bean oil. See the recipe in the links below.
Non-petroleum lip balms are plentiful in health food stores, online and some grocery stores. Chap Stick now offers a botanical medley lip balm without petroleum.
