An organized closet can set the tone for the rest of your home. If you can find everything you need easily and quickly in your bedroom closet, you're off to a great start for organizing other spaces in your house.
Creating a double row of hanging space may require you to lower one row, but it's worth it. Keep a little space at one end for longer items, such as coats, bathrobes and dresses.
Install several hooks in a convenient location to hang bags, scarves and hooded sweatshirts. Look for a tie hanger if you have ties you would like to hang in your closet.
Closets seem more open and look more organized when floor space is kept clear. Try to plan other storage solutions for anything that is currently stored on the floor.
Consider having a hanging shoe rack with pockets for shoes in your closet area. Some hanging shoe racks are designed to hang over the door, whereas others are meant to hang from a clothes rod.
If you have things you would like to store long-term, consider getting matching containers that will fit on a high shelf in the closet. You can use labels so you know what's in them without having to open them.
Consider how long you want to store items that you rarely use. Getting rid of things that you don't use frees up space for the things you do use on a regular basis.
