The 2012 Taste of Chicago will be held July 11-15 in Grant Park. The Taste is known for its sampling of authentic Chicago foods from local restaurants.
Here are my top five entree recommendations based on the restaurants attending this year.
Try a slice of their deep-dish cheese or sausage pizza. Personally, I like Uno's or Giordano's better and Lou Malnati's offshoots into the suburbs haven't been the greatest success, but the original is still pretty good.
The boneless rib sandwich is my absolute favorite and one of the first things I usually grab at the Taste. Or I head straight to their neighbor, Eli's, and have a slice of cheesecake for breakfast. :-D
The sauce is great. Their rib tips and pulled pork sandwich are also very good. The Taste portions of the rib tips and hot link are enormous.
Chicago Style hot dogs, nom nom nom. Try a plain dog, a Chicago Style dog, or a Maxwell Street Polish. No one will outwardly judge you if you put ketchup on your hot dog, I promise.
Straight to the double cheeseburger. Cheezeborger cheezeborger...
I think I just go to watch the entertaining workers scream "Cheezeborger!" at each other and am always tempted to ask for fries and a Coke.
Kasia's serves some pretty tasty pierogis in a variety of flavors (potato, sauerkraut, etc.). They're also available at many of Chicago's suburbs' grocery stores, but just aren't as good as when they're fresh.
:-P I still put ketchup on my hot dogs hahahaha.
Sounds yummy...my wife was born in Chicago and we went back for a week before her grandparents passed...great city. However, I promise that I'll be speaking up if I see someone put ketchup on a hog dog! :)
