A very young child has trouble putting toys away precisely. Your toddler will clean up with less fuss if you provide roomy, catchall storage bins and baskets.
As your child gets older, keep playthings on shelves; they permit a toy to be found without rummaging. But use catchall units for storing quantities of related items, such as building sets.
For quick, inexpensive storage, cover cardboard boxes with stick-on paper. Use them as bins or stack them for shelves. Replace them when they become tattered.
Modular plastic storage cases- or wooden cubes-can also serve as either bins or shelves and when empty can even be flipped over to form a stool.
Plastic dishpans and vegetable bins make handy storage drawers for toys. Mount them on cleats or suspend them beneath a shelf from simple runners you can get at any hardware store.
If you have two heavy, solid storage units, you can install a play table between them on adjustable tracks. This allows the table to grow with your child. Also doubles as a desk for homework.
