Introduction:

Looking for some game night game ideas for that party you are hosting? Here are some fun and family friendly ideas for game night.

Taboo

Taboo is a fun word guessing game. In the game you draw a card and then must give clues to your team so that they guess the word correctly. However, there is a list of words on the card that you cannot mention to your team when giving out the clues. The other catch is that this must be done within an alloted time of about a minute. If the word is guessed correctly then your team gets a point; if it is not guessed correctly then your team doesn't score a point.

Farkle

Farkle is a dice game and a very inexpensive one. All you need to purchase for this game is six dice. The first person to reach 10,000 points is the winner. At the beginning of each turn the player throws all six dice, but the player must keep at least one dice based on the scoring guide. Basically the player can continue rolling the dice until he or she decides to stop or farkles. To farkle means when a player doesn't roll a scoring dice.

Cranium

In Cranium the players can be divided into 2-4 groups. The object is for each group to complete an activity on the card drawn and move forward on the game board. The activity must be drawn out, sculpted with clay, whistled, hummed, unscrabble words or answer trivia questions.

Uno

Uno is a card game that has been popular for years and very family friendly, too. Each player is given seven cards. Each player has a turn and must discard a card to match a card from the discard pile. The card must match the color, number, or word. When a player has one card left then he or she must yell UNO if not the player will need to draw two cards. The first player to end up without any cards is the winner.

Scattergories

In Scattergories each player is given an answering pad with a list of 12 categories. A letter dice is rolled and whatever letter is rolled the players must write down words (based on the 12 categories) that begin with that letter. This is done on a time limit and can set the timer up to three minutes.




Final Thoughts

These five games are some fun game night ideas. My personal favorite is Taboo because the game can get intense.

    Cranium is really fun, but it only takes playing it 2 or 3 times to memorize all the cards! I guess that's why they sell expansion decks.
