With the holidays around the corner, this homemade bath salts recipe is a great holiday gift idea for men and women.
Bulk dead sea salts can be purchased online for a little over $1 a pound, making a really nice budget holiday gift for anyone. The courseness ranges from small, medium to coarse. Make sure you allow the sea salt to completely dry before attempting to work with it. Using newspaper or paper towels will absorb any sea smell they acquired in transit or storage. Epsom salts can be purchased at a grocery or discount department store, which is another option for your homemade bath salts.
A wide variety of essential oils can be selected to scent your bath salts depending on whom you're making the gift. These are found in natural food shops and some food stores as well. When sampling the fragrance, don't put your nose very close to the bottle since the scent is potent. If permitted, put one drop on a paper towel and let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes. Then sweep it by your nostrils to determine what it will smell like in your finished bath salts.
Choose a wiker or glass container to store your homemade bath salts. The wiker one should have a plastic insert to hold the bath salts so they don't slip in between the slats of the wiker pieces. If you choose the glass one make sure it has a tight fitting lid. Sizes can be quart, pint or any size for gift giving for any holiday occasion.
In a very large stainless steel bowl, combine 1 pound of sea salt or Epsom salts and 1/2 teaspoon essential oils. Mix them well until you think the oil is dispursed well with the salts. Cover tightly with a plastic wrap for 3 hours.
When time has lapsed, insert your homemade bath salts in your selected gift cartons with a ribbon and bow on the top or side of container. Label the fragrance on the attached gift card. Double the recipe for all your holidays when a gift is needed.
