Introduction:

April showers bring...wild and wacky holidays. Check out these top five silly holidays in April.

April 1 Is Day After Haydn's Birthday Fest

Guilty as charged -- I made this one up. How can any holiday compete with April Fool's Day? It's impossible. So here is how to celebrate the life of composer Franz Joseph Haydn: At the office, crawl under the cubicles to a co-workers desk. Tie his shoelaces from one shoe to those of the other. Shout "boo!" When he topples from his chair, spring up and shout "Happy Day After Haydn's Birthday!" The consummate practical joker already will have wired the office to begin playing Haydn's "Surprise Symphony."

April 3 Is Don't Go to Work Unless It's Fun Day

Your injured co-worker probably already has this day off, what with the injuries he suffered the day after Haydn's birthday. But what is your excuse? Oh, that's right. You've been fired -- You have no job to return to.

April 6 Is Plan Your Epitaph Day

You may want to come up with your epitaph while your co-worker recuperates. Once he regains his health, no saying what he might do. Here is a real epitaph from Boot Hill Cemetery in Tombstone, Arizona. May it serve as inspiration. "Here lies Lester Moore. Four slugs from a forty-four. No Les No Moore."

April 14 Is Moment of Laughter Day

If you're lucky -- really lucky -- your co-worker has forgiven you, and the two of you can go out after work for a beer and a few laughs. Oh, I forgot. You no longer are employed. That's nothing to laugh about!

April 27 Is Tell a Story Day

After a month like this one, you most certainly have a story to tell -- to the police, your defense attorney, the jury of your peers and, last but not least, Jerry Springer and the hack writer who will turn your tale into a million-dollar bestseller.




Final Thoughts

The April calendar does contain one crazy holiday not mentioned: April 15, Income Tax Day. By the power invested in me by the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz, I declare it a National Day of Mourning.
